“Libiamo, libiamo ne' lieti calici, che la bellezza infiora.”
(Let's drink from this chalice of joy that beauty so enhances) These are the famous words by the character of Alfredo, suggesting a toast that praises the joys of wine, inspired Federico de Majo to create a wine glass that pays tribute to La Traviata
by Giuseppe Verdi. This opera has now become a cornerstone of the repertoire of La Fenice opera house and is always included in the New Year's Concert programme.
The wine glass by Zafferano customised with the logo of the Venetian theatre was presented by Fortunato Ortombina, Artistic Director of the Teatro La Fenice, and Federico de Majo, CEO of the company Zafferano and designer of the wine glass. The project arises from a three-year partnership, agreed in January, which involves Zafferano as a Supporting Member
of the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice
"For the Teatro La Fenice, this partnership with Zafferano has brought great satisfaction – commented Fortunato Ortombina, artistic director of the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice –. Associating our brand with a company such as Zafferano, which has chosen to invest in the local area by combining innovation with promoting traditions, is one of the fundamental moves in sustaining the Foundation's cultural and entrepreneurial project. By interacting with major companies in the local area such as Zafferano, the Fenice is able to become a cultural company and an economic enterprise deeply rooted in the Veneto community."
The new wine glass created for the Teatro La Fenice is included in the Esperienze
collection and was designed by Federico de Majo. It will be used for the toast on the occasion of the New Year's Concert 2018 and will be given, in a limited edition, to the audience as a gift year after year.
“For me, a Venetian by birth, it is a great honour – commented Federico de Majo, CEO of Zafferano – to be able to present the wine glass of the Teatro La Fenice. This theatre helps me to recall unforgettable moments, experienced here with my family. Becoming a Supporting Member of this opera house is a step along a path that is bringing me closer to my city and my roots, to that island where my passion for glass and my career began. As a company, we are following this path by making our most precious glass items on the island of Murano, where we are beginning to produce once again. Perhaps we are going against current trends but challenges are what attract me the most. Venice is not only a place of hit-and-run tourism. My interest in the artistic and cultural values of the city I was born in – concluded Federico de Majo – led me to tie a bond with an opera house that preserves beauty and strengthens its prestige worldwide. This is why we take pride in having chosen to fully support the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice”.
