The collection of luminous vases “Luce Liquida” by Zafferano selected by ADI Design Index 2019

The Luce Liquida project has been selected by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory for publication in the ADI Design Index 2019. The ADI Design Index 2019 represents the first volume of the two-year cycle that collects the pre-selected products for the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award 2020. Luce Liquida is a project curated by the architect Anna Barbara (Politecnico di Milano) and by Federico de Majo, the Venetian designer at the helm of the Zafferano company.

Luce Liquida is a collection of vases that take on the function of containers of light, beams of light that give shape to the transparencies of glass worked in the furnace as in the past, luminous creations produced by the skilled gestures of glass masters: this is the new project of a series of illuminating objects in artistic Murano glass designed and signed by Federico de Majo and architect Anna Barbara.

“We are honored and pleased that our Luce Liquida project has been selected for publication on the ADI Design Index and to participate in the final stage towards the XXVI Compasso d’Oro ADI”, says Federico de Majo, managing director of Zafferano. “This award is the most prestigious recognition of the production and design quality of goods, services, processes and systems of Italian design. The enhancement criterion followed by ADI in choosing the best objects of Italian design focuses on quality. This selection for Zafferano represents the recognition of a work carried out in all these years, with commitment and passion, oriented towards creative and innovative design. All without losing sight of the point of origin. I am Venetian and my professional training was born in Murano, in the family glass factory. But the “know-how” and experience in glass processing always need new stimuli to make a qualitative leap and take significant steps in the innovation process. The meeting with the architect Anna Barbara, the consequent exchange of ideas and the sharing of a “contemporary” conception of a glass object were a turning point to reach what has been recognized as a good design project. ”

“The selection of the Luce Liquida project is an honor and a sign that the new does not only reside in new technologies, but very often in the invention of new meanings, new contexts, which design, as a way of thinking as well as designing, makes possible or simply visible. Liquid Light is a project that uses the other senses as tools for design, imagination and creation. Light becomes liquid to fill a glass vase, and it is immediately magic, like lagoon water in the light of the sunsets that color the rippling water in the canals “, underlines Anna Barbara, professor of Design at the Milan Polytechnic.

Each year ADI, the Industrial Design Association, identifies the best Italian design put into production, selected by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory, and presents it in a communication path that is divided into a yearbook, a dedicated site and a series of exhibitions. Being published on the ADI Design Index means participating in the pre-selection for the famous Compasso d’Oro ADI award, which is awarded every two years.

ADI Design Index 2019 was presented in Milan on Monday 14 October at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology. Here the exhibition will remain open from 15 to 20 October 2019. The presentation will follow in Rome, Friday 22 November, at the Casa dell’Architettura, Acquario Romano. In June 2020, only the selected Index 2018/2019 will be able to join the program of the XXVI Compasso d’Oro.
