POLDINA LIGHTS UP THE TABLES OF THE GRAN CAFFÈ QUADRI IN PIAZZA SAN MARCO IN VENICE

One of the most beautiful scenery in the world, Piazza San Marco in Venice, hosts shops and restaurants of inestimable historical and cultural value, including the historic Gran Caffè Quadri. Active since 1775, Gran Caffé Quadri in 2011 found the spur to renew itself in the passion of the Alajmo family, so that each guest can experience the feeling of not only being in the presence of a great past, but in a modern place, alive and updated to the criteria of quality, goodness and healthiness of the proposals. From the day of reopening on Thursday 28 May, 2020, the portable and rechargeable Poldina lamps illuminate the outdoor tables, allowing guests to enjoy the experience of stopping in the square even in the evening.
After the lockdown, the catering and hospitaly sector quickly adapted to new needs and directives, to allow customers to enjoy them again. Respect for distance – a key element to guarantee the safety of staff and diners – is also ensured by more space between the tables, which can now also be placed on outdoor public spaces. In this situation, wireless lamps – a core business for Zafferano – prove to be very useful luminaires to light up spaces outside the premises, where a power supply network is lacking. The high degree of protection makes them suitable for outdoor use; thanks to the variety of the range and the refined, essential design, they easily blend into any décor style.
This collaboration has a special value for Zafferano, as a special bond connects it with the city of Venice: in fact, Federico de Majo – founder and designer of the company – was born there, and began his professional career in the family glassworks in Murano. The close collaboration between Zafferano and the hospitality sector dates back to the company’s establishment, in 2001. Federico de Majo comments: “For 20 years, we have been working with hotels and restaurants, designing objects and tools that facilitate their daily work and make their premises more beautiful. Poldina was born from their needs: a lamp to bring light to tables placed in gardens, on terraces, wherever there is no electricity. But there is one more detail: my maternal grandfather was one of the first and most important Venetian merchants to supply raw materials to restaurants in Venice. With this collaboration between Zafferano and Alajmo, I crown a dream as an entrepreneur and a Venetian”.
