NEW YORK: Zafferano lights up lower Manhattan with first-ever U.S. showroom

Two years after the opening of the Milan store, the new space will serve as a hub for design and hospitality professionals and enthusiasts in Manhattan.

New York, September 26, 2023. Zafferano SRL, award-winning cordless lighting, handmade tableware, and world-renowned glassware, announces the opening of its first-ever U.S. Showroom at 121 Varick Street, a vibrant location in New York City. The 220-square-meter space, managed by the North American distributor Zafferano America, is the company’s first retail space established outside of Italy, with the Company’s original showrooms located in Milan and Quinto di Treviso. The store is located in an area – adjacent to Soho, located between Tribeca and Greenwich Village – that has recently undergone a fervent, positive transformation.
Over the past five years, the great success of Poldina – the company’s flagship cordless lamps – has credited Zafferano as a specialist in the rechargeable sector; last year, the brand’s profile was further boosted by a New York Times article on the lamp Pina. Finally, came the opening of this space. Federico de Majo, the Venetian entrepreneur who founded Zafferano in 2001, comments: “This is a great moment: five years ago, we could not imagine opening a flagship store in the metropolis par excellence, but the performance of the local market has given us the drive and resources to take this step. For our brand, it is a consecration, but also a starting point”.
“The new Zafferano Showroom allows us to better serve the hospitality and design communities with a hands-on look at our product offerings,” says Barrett Gross, President and CEO of Zafferano America. “We have experts available to help designers light any space, set any table, and ultimately assist designers with bringing their ideas to life by employing our extensive and colorful offerings.”
The 220 square meter space was designed by Federico de Majo, who also designs most of Zafferano’s products, to welcome both designers and consumers. It presents Zafferano’s products in a gallery-like setting, where the products are the focus. While respecting the prestigious, double-height historical context, the project interprets the spatiality of the interiors and correctly highlights the essential design, the accuracy of details and the chromatic and tactile variety of the products. The display is articulated around large organically shaped oak tables on which cascades of colored blown glass luminaires descend with great scenic impact.
In addition to bestsellers, the latest and most innovative models of the three commercial brands will be on display: Zafferano Tableware – tasting glasses, tumblers and table accessories in colored glass, and made in Italy, hand painted stoneware tableware; Zafferano Lampes-à-porter – battery-powered, portable and rechargeable lamps; and Zafferano Ailati Lights – indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, suitable for custom projects. Unique pieces and works of art in Murano glass recall the brand’s Venetian origins.
